Reviews from new and existing clients

I have been using Massage Derby for a number of years and cannot recommend their services highly enough. I have a high exertion job which takes it’s toll on my back, as well as other areas of my body. Alex’s knowledge of his primary field of osteopathy is second to none and I visit regularly to keep up with ongoing treatments. The overall service experience is extremely professional from the online booking system, to the follow up appointment coherence from previous sessions. I have referred many friends to Massage Derby and I am sure I will continue to do so over the coming years.

About Alex

Originally Alex was introduced to osteopathy in 2004 after trying to squat at the gym. Alex still squats, but no longer on the Smith machine. Now in 2023 he is practicing osteopathy on Vernon Street, lectures at Kedleston Road on the osteopathy programme and teaches yoga at Nuffield Health.

Recently Alex has taken up in-line skating, which at 55 is a big step. This new sport has given Alex first-hand experience with sports injuries, and receiving hands-on treatment. Skating has been a steep learning curve, falling backwards on the Derwent river path in July 2021 required two sessions of massage and manipulation. On the up-side  skating has particularly exposed ankle instability, which has improved with Alpine  skiing feeling more fluid. In-line  skating and skiing share many fundamental movements.

Alex tripped and fell in Early September 2022, landing on his hip. he impacted upon two tiny sharp stones that have left dark pin-point bruises.

New year 2022 brought a heavy fall at Rollerworld where Alex’s left hip bursae swelled up like a small soup bowl. The bursae is a fluid filled bag that protects the ends of muscles as they attach onto the top of the femur bone. This injury took a month to heal.  Acupuncture was the key to that process.

A useful addition to acupuncture is the application of ice onto acute bumps and bruises. It numbs pain and constricts arteries allowing local inflammation to reduce.
